Overview
Our role as commissioners is to advise and make the Mayor aware of disAbility issues that need to be addressed in the community, we work to put the "A" inability. Commissioners are volunteers appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. Members are required to be from Danbury, and be active in the disability community or have a family member who is disabled. We are currently seeking an Alternate Commissioner. If you have a question or concern please email John Gentile. The commission was established to advise the Mayor and the Common Council of the needs of persons with disabilities within the community with relation to housing, economics, employment, transportation, health, recreation, and other matters. The Commission works to put the "A" inability. We have many goals including focusing on the Abilities of those with disabilities. The Commission was formed by Sec. 2-56.13 of the City of Danbury Code of Ordinances. Commission meetings are open to the public and we kindly ask those who plan to attend to email our department in advance so that we may be sure to request additional seating, if necessary, or make accommodations if needed.
